Brown Keeps the Tool Truck Market Rolling

Brown Industries provides quality van bodies for all types of customers but our Colorado (Henderson) location specializes in manufacturing van bodies for the many tool truck franchisees that provide service to repair shops nationwide. These tool truck operators require a strong and durable van body to provide protection for the valuable inventory that is required for each of their vehicles. Equipped with custom shelving and cabinetry installed by Summit Body Works, these trucks are special in every way.

The focus in Henderson is not limited to tool truck manufacturing. Heavy duty and severe service platform bodies are produced there as well, and the location also serves as a mounting and distribution center for the dry freight, curtainside, reefer, and specialty products manufactured at our primary facility in Lawrence, KS.

Jerry Smittkamp, the regional sales manager for Brown in Colorado, has spent the majority of his career in the van body manufacturing business. Jerry started working in the van body industry in 1973, when he joined the sales team at Timpte Van Body in Denver, CO. Jerry joined the Brown team in 2011 after having gone through several ownership changes with Timpte. Brown is proud to have someone with Jerry’s experience and knowledge on our team. Jerry is located in Denver, CO serving customers from the Front Range to Salt Lake City.

Brown Industries at AMSA

Brown was excited to display with an indoor booth, and have a truck in the outdoor exhibit at the American Moving and Storage Association conference in Palm Springs, CA from February 26th to March 1st. This great organization serves the moving and storage industry well, and Brown was proud to support it at their annual conference. At the outdoor exhibit, we had the latest version of our patented Lock N Load moving system. This system utilizes a single sided curtainside body for maximum flexibility in loading containers or vaults, yet also features lightweight, movable wall panels that can be easily installed creating a moving van for household moving. Utilizing lightweight construction technology, including an industry leading extruded aluminum logistic post, Brown is able to package this 24′ body on a 26,000 lb. GVW chassis and still have over 10,000 lbs. of payload capacity.

Come see us next year at the AMSA conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Brown Industries Introduced a New Car Mover / Material Handler at Railway Interchange Show

LAWRENCE, Kan. (September 26, 2017) – At the 2017 Railway Interchange trade show, Brown Industries introduced a new Car Mover / Material Handler that allows operators to work more efficiently when conducting track maintenance.

“Our new Car Mover / Material Handler brings several unique advantages to the marketplace,” said Director of Rail Equipment Sales, Stuart Seeger.

Rail operators can work smarter, not harder, with the new Car Mover/Material Handler from Brown Industries

“First, it easily pulls up to four loaded rail cars and still functions as a material handler. From a safety perspective, the suspension on the rail gear stays engaged to the track the entire time–no derailing. The truck also includes a train knuckle with double articulation to keep cars properly aligned.”

“For a single man crew, the truck can be optioned with our hydrostatic drive and wireless remote control. The remote has a 4.3” video screen that allows the operator to position the truck without physically being in the cab,” said Seeger.

Fleets of all sizes will appreciate the reduced time it takes to charge rail car air brakes. For example, several railroads require a 15-minute wait per car. The Brown Car Mover / Material Handler has an air brake system with digital air flow meter that notifies the operator when the charge is fully complete, greatly reducing unproductive down time.

“Response to the Car Mover / Material Handler has been strong,” said President Dane Jennison. “This new product adds greater breadth and depth to our growing portfolio of rail solutions.”

Brown Industries Expands Manufacturing in the Western United States

(Lawrence, KS) Brown Industries reduces costs for customers from the front-range westward by converting their Denver location into a van body manufacturing plant.

Early this summer, Brown Industries made a strategic decision to grow national accounts in the Western United States. To support this decision, management converted their Denver-based upfit location into a full manufacturing plant. In addition to supporting national accounts, this plant will serve local truck dealers, leasing companies, and regional distributors.

“We are manufacturing everything from box trucks to curtainsides from our Denver plant.”
– Matt Archambault

“Due to the increasing demand west of the Rockies, we are manufacturing everything from box trucks to curtainsides from our Denver plant,” said Matt Archambault, Technical Fleet Sales Manager. “We’re hopeful that customers, who have not yet purchased a Brown, will have more financial incentive than if they had to take delivery from just our Kansas location.”

Commenting on the move, Brown President, Dane Jennison noted, “We faced a unique opportunity. Grow our upfit services or our manufacturing capabilities. We chose manufacturing. We think this decision will grow the footprint of our business in the years to come.”

Brown Industries Attends 2018 Work Truck Show

(Lawrence, KS) On the heels of expanding manufacturing capabilities at their Henderson, CO plant, Brown Industries seeks to develop new customer relationships by attending the 2018 Work Truck Show (booth #124).

“We have met a lot of potential customers here at the Work Truck Show. Last year, we expanded manufacturing capabilities at our Henderson plant while at the same time increasing production slots at our Kansas plant. By attending this show, we’re hoping to educate new customers on Brown’s value,” said Dane Jennison, President.

This was the first time that Brown Industries showcased both of its brands at a single trade event. A similar grapple truck is on display in the Western Star Trucks booth – #4959.

The second brand, Brown Cargo Van, manufactures van and truck bodies (a.k.a. box trucks) that include dry freight, platform bodies, curtainsides, and a unique dry freight solution that allows for side- loading with a forklift.
